CHILDREN CRYING IN THE NIGHT By Nolan Moon I awoke to find the increasing darkness, fearful, closer I moved to my light...Warming me, but not the darkness beyond, and there I heard, The children crying in the night. Babe encircled by darkness, crying to be free. Their voices seemed to be calling only for me. What made them think? That I could help them escape. I never hurt them, Nor make them prisoners of other's hate. Just as they began to quiet, Just as there cries became mild. From the back of the darkness came the piercing voice of my own child. In pain I fell to my knees, sorrow dislodging my heart. Thinking that all that I had, was coming apart... Then from the darkness came a hand, to wipe away my tears. Speaking that the pain was their's, and they wouldn't want to share. Then I heard tears falling in the darkness, From the night came sorrow for me not them. Compassion filled my eyes, As I began to search for me, a destiny I had to find, searching for the key, To unlock the darkness, And turn the children free.
